Media Law Bootcamp

MVJ’s Media Law Bootcamp is a one-hour virtual webinar designed to be useful for any journalist working in the U.S., and especially for those who might go out into the field as a freelancer. It is a foundational course for entry-level reporters and a valuable refresher for reporters who have been working even for years. Students will learn their rights and responsibilities as a reporter and will receive additional resources for more advanced concerns. In our short time together, we will focus on three essential areas of media law for reporters:

Dr. Jeffrey Layne Blevins
Dr. Jeffrey Layne Blevins (Ph.D., Ohio University) is Professor and Head of the Journalism Department at the University of Cincinnati and editor of the scholarly journal Democratic Communiqué. A frequent opinion-editorial columnist, Dr. Blevins’ commentary on media policy and ethics have appeared in USA Today, Cincinnati Enquirer, St. Louis Post-Dispatch, PandoDaily, Gateway Journalism Review and other venues. His scholarly research examines telecommunication policy and the political economy of U.S. media industries with a recent focus on social media networks. Dr. Blevins is co-author of a forthcoming book, “Social Media, Social Justice and the Political Economy of Online Networks” (University of Cincinnati Press, 2021). He is a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Military Intelligence Corps and attained the rank of Specialist (E-4), and is a lifetime member of MVJ.
