Sports can be one of the toughest areas to crack in journalism, especially without the experience most employers and editors are looking for. But all is not lost, because there is enough interest and content to satisfy the millions of diehard sports fans out there.

Scooby Axson of USA Today Sports joins MVJ to give tips to aspiring sports writers on how to get started in the industry and how to stay there. This virtual course will take place on February 24, 2022, at 7 PM EST.

The topics this webinar will cover include:

  • Getting started: How to get your foot in the door of sports journalism.
  • Writing is not wrong: Read, read, and read some more. Write, write and write some more. Learn AP style.
  • The art of the interview: Seeking story ideas, securing interviews and asking the right questions. Difference between profiles and game stories. Using a critical mind when coming up with ideas.
  • Question and answer session: Come ready with questions! You’ll have time in the last 20 minutes to ask them.
