2025 Journalist Development Series!
The 2025 Journalist Development Series, sponsored by News Corp, features once-monthly webinars as an opportunity for general professional development for our members and mentorship community. The webinars are a live, recorded virtual event with two or more coaches speaking on a particular topic/subject matter which will help the audience by expanding their education in journalism.
The first event of this series will be held Tues., Jan. 14th at 6 p.m. ET on Zoom.
This month’s topic will focus on entrepreneurship in journalism.
Attendees will have the opportunity to gain valuable insights from experienced entrepreneurial coaches Christian Fahrenbach and Joan Ramirez, who will share essential tools and strategies tailored for journalists. As trusted professionals in their field, Christian and Joan bring a wealth of knowledge and practical advice to help participants navigate the evolving landscape of journalism and develop critical entrepreneurial skills.

Christian Fahrenbach

Christian Fahrenbach
Christian Fahrenbach works as a journalist, teacher and consultant in Germany and New York. He was the first ever German Fellow in the City University of New York’s Entrepreneurial Journalism program and is one of the founding members of Krautreporter, the biggest crowdfunding project in German journalism to date. He writes their daily newsletter “Morgenpost” with more than 15,000 subscribers and an open rate of more than 40 percent. As a journalist, he works regularly for the German newswire dpa in New York and Washington and he had bylines in Süddeutsche Zeitung, the business magazine brand eins, Spiegel Online and Zeit Online, among many others.
As a teacher he gave lectures and workshops for clients like the Swiss Ringier Group, the Deutsche Journalistenschule or Hamburg Media School and he gave key notes or hosted panels at re:publica, in the German Haus at SXSW or at the Digital Media Viability conference in Beirut, Lebanon.
His education and studies include a Bachelor’s degree in Business and a Master’s degree in Journalism. He earned a PhD degree at the University of Hohenheim for his thesis about “Reputation-oriented Issues Management.”

Joan Ramirez

Joan Ramirez
Joan Ramirez is an award-winning photojournalist based in the NYC metropolitan area. She has published short suspense stories in various anthologies and a wealth of experience teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) to students around the globe. She has 30 years of Corporate Communications expertise fortified by three Masters. She established a communications unit within a multibillion-dollar firm and is proud of the award she won for the writing of their annual report.
She has also published Jamie is Autistic (Spanish and English) and Go for It Leadership Handbook for which she’s doing webinars and podcasts and is crafting a historical suspense series set in World War II. Her latest endeavor is The Write Rules, which is now in the London Consortium of Libraries. It is a concise handbook to guide present and future entrepreneurs in Business English and Communications.
She trains professionals, at all levels, in the nuances of entrepreneurship.
