Scott Marshutz is a writer and film producer based in Vista, CA. Originally from New York, he joined the Marine Corps in 1978 and served aboard the USS Tarawa during the Iranian Hostage Crisis and later as a staff writer in the public affairs office of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing. After being discharged, he studied journalism and film at Chapman University and interned at the National Journal in Washington, D.C. Since then, he has written for a variety of publications, including the Los Angeles Times, California Diving News, Scuba Diving, San Clemente Times and several trade publications. In 2017, he launched Marshootz Productions to produce documentary films. His second film Wounded Land, released in 2023, examines the challenges Ukrainian vintners faced after Russia’s full-scale invasion. It’s available on Amazon Prime, CW, Tubi and Kanopy. Last Flare, based on a true story, was selected by two Los Angeles area film festivals in 2025 and received top honors for best Action-Adventure in the short category. It is being developed into a feature and scheduled for production later this year.
