MVJ offers Press Credentials for veterans and military spouses!
Any MVJ member who is working as a journalist, whether part time or full time, may apply for a press pass with Military Veterans in Journalism.
A press pass is an important tool for any journalist. It allows you to identify yourself to agencies, event organizers and businesses. A press pass is a document that identifies its owner as a professional journalist, which is tremendously helpful when conducting in-depth research. A press pass makes access to events, blocked-off areas and a variety of information much easier.
It is important to note that any press credential or ID will not necessarily entitle you to greater access than the general public. It may, however, help identify you to organizations and subjects who may be requesting such information.
Press Pass Criteria
To demonstrate that you qualify for a press pass, you must have a valid, up-to-date membership in Military Veterans in Journalism and your application must be accompanied by the following:
- MVJ members who are print, digital, or photojournalists: Submit one published article or photo piece from the past three years, with a link to the reputable news organization where it appeared.
- MVJ members who are broadcast journalists or videographers: Submit one audio or video piece from the past three years, with a link to the reputable outlet where it aired.
- MVJ members who are new or self-published: If you don’t have recent published work, submit a professional letter (PDF) of at least 300–400 words explaining what you plan to use the pass for and how it will support your journalism career. We encourage applicants to include a professional or academic reference letter regarding this application.
If you are unsure about the status of your membership, you can try to log in on MyMVJ with the email you think you would have used, email [email protected] or mark “Not Sure” when asked in this application.
Cost and Validity Duration
The cost of each Press Pass is $59, which includes shipping costs and one lanyard with your pass. Once we process your payment order, you should receive your pass in the mail within 21 business days. The pass will stay valid for 2 years.

- Press pass approvals may be revoked at any time if a member is later found to have misrepresented their qualifications or violated the MVJ Code of Conduct.
