We connect military vets with seasoned journalists who guide the former service members on their desired career path.
FELLOWSHIPS
We partner with media outlets to offer opportunities for military veterans to build a portfolio and a network while working in the news industry.
INTERNSHIPS
We create opportunities for military veterans to apply and be selected for previously-existing paid internships in partner newsrooms.
CAREER ENHANCING EVENTS
We organize events for veterans to learn skills from established journalists, network with newsroom human resources professionals, and visit media outlets.
MVJ CAREER CENTER
We work with JournalismNext to host the MVJ Career Center, a job listing and search site just for MVJ members.
PRESS CREDENTIALS
We offer press passes to support military veteran journalists in their careers. MVJ press passes help identify our members as professional journalists to organizations and sources.
INFORMATION INTEGRITY PROJECT
Thanks to support from the Knight Foundation, Craig Newmark Philanthropies and the MacArthur Foundation, we combat the spread of deceptive narratives and extremism in veteran and military communities.
DISABILITY JOURNALISM GRANTS
Thanks to support from the Ford Foundation, we offered funding for quality stories about issues related to disabilities in the military veteran community. Applications for this program are currently closed.
ENTREPRENEURIAL JOURNALISM GRANTS
Thanks to generous support from News Corp, Military Veterans in Journalism introduced a new series of journalism grants: our Entrepreneurial Journalism Grants Program. Applications for this program are currently closed.
DISABILITY NARRATIVE GUIDE
The Disability Narrative Initiative, thanks to the Ford Foundation and in collaboration with the Disabled Journalists Association, equips journalists with tools for accurate, inclusive disability coverage by addressing gaps in existing style guides through a comprehensive Disability Narrative Guide developed with disabled journalists.
2025 JOURNALIST DEVELOPMENT SERIES
Throughout 2025, and thanks to News Corp, these once-monthly webinars serve as an opportunity for general professional development for our members and mentorship community. They include a live, recorded webinar with one or more coaches on a particular topic/subject matter which help the audience by expanding their knowledge of journalism.
