Thanks to generous support from News Corp Giving, Military Veterans in Journalism introduced a new series of journalism grants in 2023: our Entrepreneurial Journalism Grants Program. With initial funding of $10,000, this program aimed to empower military veteran journalists and news entrepreneurs by providing grants to kickstart their sustainable journalism ventures. This program is currently closed for applications.
We invited veterans with impactful stories to cover and innovative news entrepreneurship ideas in mind to apply for these grants. Successful applicants received assistance covering the costs for reporting on a high-impact story in their venture beat of choice, including any fees they may need to cover to self-publish. This initiative helped grant recipients achieve sustainable news entrepreneurship faster while enriching the journalism industry with more representation of veteran voices.
