About the speakers:

Marjorie Censer is the editor of Defense News. She was previously editor of Inside Defense. She also worked as the defense editor at Politico and as a staff writer at the Washington Post, the Carroll County Times and the Princeton Packet. A Fairfax, Va. native, Censer graduated from Princeton University.

Mike Gruss is the editor-in-chief of Sightline Media Group, which includes Army Times, Air Force Times, C4ISRNET, Defense News, Federal Times, Marine Corps, Military Times and Navy Times. Earlier in his career, Mike worked as a top editor for several publications — Defense News, C4ISRNET, Fifth Domain and FedTech Magazine — and wrote for others including Space News, the Virginian-Pilot and the Fort Wayne, Ind. Journal-Gazette.

Kyle Rempfer has worked for Military Times for five years, currently as the Army Times editor. He has covered everything from a previously unreported al-Qaida attack on U.S. forces in Mali, to the military’s failure to prosecute sexual misconduct, to a botched foreign military sales program that led to the death of a U.S. service member. Before entering journalism, Kyle served in U.S. Air Force Special Tactics as a combat controller. He deployed to Afghanistan as the sole JTAC for an Army Green Beret team and worked out of a strike cell in Iraq during the Islamic State’s push on Baghdad in Fall 2014.

Davis Winkie is a staff reporter covering the Army for Military Times. His journalism career began there as an intern in 2020, and has also included a stint as a fact-check researcher on CNN’s editorial quality control team. Davis has tackled numerous accountability stories ranging from his investigative partnership with The Texas Tribune on the Operation Lone Star border mission, to the Army’s IT modernization mishaps, to shortcomings in the military justice system. He also serves part-time as a human resources officer in the National Guard.
